Nordic Recycling wins an Environment Award

From left Sean Spoors, Kerry Emptage, Mathew Major & Sam Stewart. It was all smiles at the Kent Business awards in September, when Nordic Recycling came out winners in the category of ‘Resource Efficiency’ in the Kent Environment Awards.

The event, which took place at Salomon’s Hotel, in Tunbridge Wells, was hosted by TV anchorman Geoff Clark, and was attended by many of the county's leading businesses.

The Panel of Judges were very impressed by Nordic’s environmental credentials, having replaced an old and inefficient bale wrapper with a new low energy system that wraps the bales with a pliable plastic, which reduced energy costs by a massive 66%.

Other initiatives by Nordic included procuring baling wire impregnated with oil, instead of wire that was coated, which had to be stored & disposed of safely, reducing the hazardous waste outputs of the company; and saving fuel, carbon and time, by the more efficient and better use of transport, shipping and logistics.

The Judges verdict on Nordic was that “….the recycling company had stood out because they recognised a need to thoroughly assess their operational inefficiencies and found innovative methods of reducing them.”

On hand to accept the award on behalf of Nordic was a delighted Sean Spoors, Kerry Emptage, Mathew Major & Sam Stewart.
